I didn’t really know what happened; why I had done what I did. I hadn’t intended to manhandle our mate. I didn’t blame her for shocking me or for leaving with her other mates. I was just surprised she hadn’t done worse. There was no excuse for my behavior. I just wanted her so badly. Her scent had been taunting me since that first day I saw her. Then when I heard she had been stolen out from under my nose by that pathetic excuse for a human being, I was frantic. I couldn’t find her. Her Klaxian mates came storming in and took over. It was a good thing they did. They probably saved her life. They had better skills at overriding computer securities than I did. They were also just more. I didn’t know what all they were but they had skills our people never sought. They were apex predators among apex predators.

I was lucky they chose not to retaliate against me. There was no doubt in my mind who would have won that exchange.

Maybe part of what happened was my relief at having her safe and out of the hands of that monster overriding my sense of good judgment? Once I was sure she was our mate, I just needed to hold her and reassure myself she was truly safe. I had suspected from the first moment I saw her. Our sigils wouldn’t glow though, not without at least one of my bond mates either being present or having bonded with me. That was why I rushed through completing my testing. I did it without the usual precautions of having one of my species watch over me to complete the process. In trying to complete it before our mate left the planet with her Klaxian mates, I was having headaches. There was small comfort in accomplishing the completion of my testing and finding my bond mates, since I botched it all so badly.

I was equally surprised that my bond mates hadn’t torn into me physically. Some of them had been waiting for a mate much longer than I had. I wasn’t sure if I could repair the damage I had done. Not just with my bond mates, but our mate and her other mates.
